History
Hurtigruten has a history of more than 100 years and started in 1893. The idea with Hurtigruten was from the start to transport mail, passengers and express goods, and fresh fish in cold storage. Transportation of local people and goods is still an basic condition for Hurtigruten.

The voyage
No matter what time of year you travel the natural light plays an important role, dramatising the scenery and enhancing the experience. During the winter months a quiet, atmospheric darkness prevails, penetrated by warm embers of light from navigation beacons, clusters of houses and towns along the shore.
Itīs a very relaxing and pleasant experience. You donīt really have to do so much, itīs enough to be - take in all impressions that every moment provides. Spend your time as you want, out in the fresh air or in one of the many lounges.

The Arctic Circle
When you cross the Arctic Circle you are in the "Land of the Midnight Sun". The Arctic Circle marks the southernmost point at which the sun shines virtually 24 hours a day during the summer months.
The north
The northernmost part of Norway is very exciting. Here you find a special light, and a very special nature along the coast with itīs deep fjords and mountainous islands.
